The Ice Engineering Student Team from Dalian University of Technology has recently achieved progress in sea-ice prediction and intelligent meteorological navigation technologies. The team’s newly developed system integrates artificial intelligence, multi-source observations, and intelligent decision-making methods to provide real-time support for maritime safety under complex sea conditions.

Recently, the Ice Engineering Student Team from Dalian University of Technology officially introduced an intelligent sea-ice prediction and meteorological navigation system. By combining satellite remote sensing, ship-based observations, sea-ice forecasting models, and intelligent navigation algorithms, the system establishes an integrated “observation–prediction–decision-making” framework for maritime navigation support.

According to the research team, the project focuses on several key technologies, including multi-source data fusion, lightweight forecasting models, and intelligent route optimization. Compared with traditional forecasting approaches, the new system significantly improves prediction efficiency, real-time response capability, and adaptability under complex sea conditions, providing technical support for maritime safety, marine observation, and intelligent shipping.

“Our goal is to combine artificial intelligence with marine science to promote the development of sea-ice forecasting from traditional experience-based analysis to intelligent and real-time prediction,” said Li Jinzhao, leader of the student team. “We hope this system can provide more efficient and reliable technical solutions for future intelligent navigation.”

The team has published multiple SCI papers related to sea-ice prediction and intelligent navigation technologies and has obtained software copyright achievements connected with the project. Related forecasting products and data have also attracted attention from both domestic and international academic and maritime communities.

Dalian University of Technology continues to promote research in marine engineering, intelligent navigation, and ice engineering, contributing to the integration of artificial intelligence and marine technologies for the future development of intelligent shipping systems.
