Didang Lake

“Rather than reading books and appreciating photos, it is better to meet in Shaoxing.” With spring going on, on April 3rd, Shaoxing Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film and Television issued an invitation of “Let’s Meet Shaoxing”, sincerely inviting netizens to walk through the scenery in the textbook, taste the authentic flavor of the city and feel the charm of Shaoxing.

Shaoxing has the tenderness of a water town, Shanxi, Cao’e River, Jianhu Lake, Grand Canal in East Zhejiang and Shanyin Old Waterway. Lakes and marshes port branches are dotted with fine water networks criss-crossing. Walking into the depths of the city is like walking into a “historical grand view”. “Ten thousand years of human activities, more than 2,500 years of city construction and 1,000 years of Song Yun history” are the cultural glory of the city.

Jishan Park Wenbi Pagoda

There is a strong character here. Between the mountains and rivers, the interlaced fusion paved the background of Shaoxing people’s life. In the long history of Shaoxing, people can go to the Tomb of Dayu to feel the spirit of “bravely fighting, combining blocking and dredging, and finally leveling the land”; People can go to Yuewangtai to experience the unyielding spirit of “sleeping on a salary and tasting courage”; People can go to Guangling Village and feel the Wei-Jin style of “Seven Sages of Bamboo Forest”. People can experience the elegance of ancient literati in Lanting.

Every city has different ways to record its own lost time. For Shaoxing, poetry is probably the most appropriate way. The charming poets in the Tang Dynasty like to visit historic sites, and Shaoxing, with its rich cultural resources and numerous beautiful scenery, was already a “popular place” for travelers in the Tang Dynasty. Walking through Jianhu is Du Fu’s “Yue Nv is white in the world, Jianhu is cool in May”; Climbing Kuaiji Mountain is Yuan Zhen’s “Kuaiji Mountain Well-known for Its Beauty”; Approaching Ruoye Creek is William Wang’s “I don’t know the dancing woman on the lake, as well as how many spring boats are in Ruoye”. Only after walking through the roads and scenery of poets in Tang and Song Dynasties can we understand what Shaoxing is elegant.

Yue Wang Dian

If poetry is a footnote to Shaoxing’s landscape, then the ancient buildings in the ancient city tell the story of Shaoxing people. Ancient Yue is the root of Shaoxing, and the Southern Song Dynasty is the soul of Shaoxing. Today, Shaoxing’s cultural relics and historical traces of the Southern Song Dynasty still abound.

To talk about the origin of Shaoxing and the Southern Song Dynasty, a Six Mausoleums of the Song Dynasty has outlined most of it. The Six Mausoleums of the Song Dynasty were built in the early years of the Southern Song Dynasty, including seven tombs of Huizong in the Northern Song Dynasty, Gaozong, Xiaozong, Guangzong, Ningzong, Lizong and Duzong in the Southern Song Dynasty, and the Empress Dowager Zhao Cimeng. It is not only a famous mausoleum in the world where people think about the past, but also a unique historical and cultural heritage of the Southern Song Dynasty. Strolling through Shaoxing city, the ruins of the Southern Song Dynasty are dotted. Come to Ying ‘en Gate, feel the customs on both sides of the ancient canal, and perfectly fit with the old city block, and restore the life of the old Shaoxing people; Take a trip to Shen Garden, a garden built in the Southern Song Dynasty. After the baptism of time, it still does not change its youth.

Shaoxing is known as the “Museum of Ancient Bridges”. It needs not only a large number, but also a rich variety and a long history to bear this title. The Bazi Bridge, with the reputation of “the oldest overpass in China”, is the best testimony of Shaoxing’s long history. Here, you can look at Huiji Mountain in the south and Dashan Pagoda in the west. In the Southern Song Dynasty’s Journal of Jiatai Kuaiji, this scene is called “Heliang Fengyue”

Brewing Yellow Rice Wine

Come to Shaoxing and have a bowl of yellow wine. Children in Shaoxing grew up with wine. This city, which has a history of more than 2,500 years, has brought wine to the extreme. Shaoxing people are “drunk” today, except for drunken crabs, there are also drunken chickens with carved flowers, drunken geese, drunken yellow croaker and drunken clams; Bad chicken, bad dried fish and bad meat. They open up the boundary of five flavors of “sweet, sour, bitter, spicy and salty” and are the complex and mellow flavors contributed by Shaoxing’s efforts.
