How to get through the unprecedented epidemic is believed to be a question that every country is thinking about right now.For Malaysia,letting go of prejudices among countries and facing challenges together could be the answer.

At the most severe moment when the Wuhan epidemic first started,the Malaysian government and all sectors of society actively provided China with valuable support and assistance. Malaysia immediately collected a large number of masks to aid Wuhan, and donated 18 million medical gloves to China to help fight the COVID-19.

The Sabah state government established the “Wuhan Fund” and raised about 2 million ringgit.Musicians from Malaysia held a concert in Kuala Lumpur in support of Wuhan with songs like You Are Not Alone. The support during the pandemic moved countless Chinese People.

However,Malaysia was also affected by the Covid-19 as the pandemic getting worse. Statistics from the Malaysian Bureau of Statistics suggest that most companies have been unable to operate normally since the government implemented the Movement Control Order until June.

Tourism bore the brunt and became the hardest hit sector. Manufacturing and service industries, industries with the largest revenue losses, have also been restricted from operating normally. Many companies announced layoffs, which led to the rise in  unemployment, up by nearly 50%, reaching the highest unemployment rate in Malaysian history.

China once said to Malaysia, “Climb together when encountering mountains, and cross together when encountering ditches.” That promise was fulfilled as  China did its best to provide Malaysia with materials and technical support when the epidemic got worse in March.

China Construction Bank (Malaysia) immediately donated 15,000 masks to the Malaysian government and later the second round of donations arrived in Malaysia. In addition, China also donated a large number of anti-epidemic materials to Malaysia, including protective clothing, ventilators and nucleic acid testing kits.

Meanwhile,China send medical equipment and experts to Malaysia to assist in the treatment of infected persons. Supply chains disruptions between Malaysia and China are being fixed in an orderly manner. Two countries are providing each other with the raw materials and products they need to protect the supply chains.

Malaysia-China Relation is a Model of Cooperation, Confrontation Will Hurt both

The COVID-19 global pandemic overturned people’s judgments about the powerful countries in the world.The United States in particular is vulnerable to the epidemic.Meanwhile,countries that emphasize democracy and human rights seem to be banding their hands in handling the pandemic,making it out of control.

The epidemic will definitely affect China’s economy to a certain extent,however,the long-term upward trend of China’s economy will not change due to its strong momentum and resilience.Meanwhile, The strong cooperation between China and Malaysia in the pandemic impressed other countries in the world.

As the host of this year’s APEC Informal Leaders’ Meeting, Malaysia has shown its willingness to cooperate closely with China under the framework of APEC, and is determined to work together to handle the epidemic and cooperate in political and economic issues.

The framework for cooperation between Malaysia and China to fight the epidemic and seek common development has become stronger, which set an great example for state-to-state cooperation. It is believed that after the epidemic, it can be foreseen that Malaysia and China will further deepen mutual trust and strengthen bilateral relations.

As of July 22, 2020, COVID-19 cases reached 15 million and the death toll reached 620,000. The situation is worsening as Hong Kong, the financial center of Asia, recently experienced a third wave of epidemic. Meanwhile, the United States just made an unreasonable move to close the Chinese consulate in Houston, which caused the world’s worries about the future to rise suddenly.

Therefore, at this critical moment when the epidemic and relations between major powers take a sudden turn, the world should put aside prejudices, resume cooperation, and unite to face the current and future difficulties globally.
